Manage folder sync

All of this is in Settings › Account & Sync › Sync through a folder (set it up first).

Check on it

The status shows what the folder holds, this device’s last read and write, the devices writing to it, and sync tool trouble such as files still copying or two key files.

Turn it off

Turn off stops this device using the folder. Its hosts and keys stay, and the folder keeps its files.

If you forget the passphrase

Devices already syncing keep working, but none can join. Turn folder sync off everywhere and set it up again with a new passphrase, in a new folder or after deleting Sternway Sync. Nothing on the devices is lost.

What to know

• The sync tool sees only random file names, rounded-up sizes, write times and the wrapped key file. See What leaves your device.
• Session recordings, and log entries made while folder sync is on, stay off the folder.
• With Settings › Security › Sync keys and identities off, keys and identities stay on each device and host passwords are left out.
• A read that would remove many items asks first, defaulting to Keep my local data.
